EFFECTS OF ACID AND ALKALINE TREATMENTS ON EFFICIENCY OF DIATOMACEOUS EARTH IN REMOVAL OF TETRACYCLINE IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION

Contamination of tetracycline (TC) in environment may cause serious problems relating to increase antibiotic resistance and development new deceases. This paper focuses on TC removal by simple adsorption treatment utilization natural diatomaceous earth (NDE) as a cheap adsorbent. To improve efficiency NDE, an impregnation method using acid (H2SO4) or base (KOH) was applied modify NDE influences important activation parameters, concentration reagent (Creagent), ratio weight activating solution volume (NDE-to-Sol), temperature (Tact) time (tact), the efficiencies obtained activated earths (ADE BDE) were investigated. Batch experiment performed at same condition evaluate capacities equilibrium (qe, TC) ADE BDE. It found that negatively affected qe, increases CH2SO4, Tact tact resulted poorer ADE. In contrast, successfully enhanced through KOH; played more significant roles enhancement, comparing with CKOH NDE-to-Sol; higher longer could BDE best (BDE-B) highest (86.31 mg/g) 3 M, 0.1 g/ml, 80 °C 9 h.
